Nancy R. Webb, PhD, was recently named the recipient of the 2019 Mentor of Women Award by the American Heart Association Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Discovery Council (ATVB) for her exceptional support of the careers of women in the fields of arteriosclerosis, thrombosis and vascular biology through mentoring and advocacy.
Dr. Webb is a professor of Pharmacology and Nutritional Sciences and the director for the Nutritional Sciences Graduate Program. Her primary research focuses on mechanisms of cardiovascular disease, including atherosclerosis and abdominal aortic aneurysms.
“When I was notified about being selected for this award I naturally thought about the importance of mentors for my own career development,” said Dr. Webb. “I am grateful to be a member of the cardiovascular research community at UK, which provided a supportive and collaborative environment as I established my own research program.”
The ATVB Council also recognized Dr. Webb with a special award during the Annual Council Dinner for her outstanding contributions and service as the Chair for the Vascular Discovery: From Genes to Medicine 2018 and 2019 Scientific Sessions.
During an interview with Mary Sorci-Thomas, PhD, from the Medical College of Wisconsin, Dr. Webb shared helpful advice for both mentors and mentees. To watch the interview, visit https://youtu.be/UkDHO8JMMpQ.
