Kudos to Dr. Ren Xu...

Dr. Ren Xu and colleagues just published an article in Breast Cancer Research entitled Membrane-associated collagen XIII promotes cancer metastasis and enhances anoikis resistanceUsing a novel three-dimensional cell culture model, one that closely resembles the in vivo environment, they show that a specific connective tissue protein may be a critical factor in the spread of cancer.  This protein, collagen XIII, is highly expressed in breast cancer tissue and reducing its activity prevents breast cancer metastases from spreading to other tissues such as the lung.  Their results demonstrate a novel function of collagen XIII in promoting cancer metastasis, cell invasion, and anoikis resistance.  More information can be found on the nice UKnow Article by Allison Perry HERE.
Congratulations Dr. Xu and colleagues!
